Along with the rest of state government, the South Carolina Arts Commission remains open and serving our constituents.
Our team has transitioned back to in-person work at our offices, though meetings can be conducted virtually by appointment to reduce the potential for transmission of COVID-19. Agency personnel travel remains restricted to agency-initiated essential business.
In-person meetings and agency personnel travel will resume again as conditions improve.
The Arts Commission is located on Sumter Street between Senate and Pendleton streets, next door to Town Theatre and across from the Statehouse.
Our address is:
1026 Sumter Street
Columbia, SC 29201-3746
8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday – Friday (except state holidays).
Entrance and Accessibility
The building entrance is under the blue awning in the parking lot adjacent to Town Theatre. Once inside, the door to your right will lead you upstairs to our office.
This building is accessible to persons with disabilities. There is a ramp outside and an elevator available inside; please call 803-734-8696 for assistance.
In the parking lot accessed from Sumter Street, there are five spaces reserved for visitors to our building, plus two designated handicapped parking spaces. There is also plenty of metered parking in the area.
Here’s an interesting historic shot of our current home, with Town Theatre in the lower right corner, and the intersection of Sumter and Senate streets in the upper left corner.
Built in 1920, the building was at one time home to the R.L. Bryan Company. Since that time it has housed a variety of state offices.
